Project Overview
Between June and October, DIGS Hydrovac supported four contractors across six visits in the Bow Valley, in the mountain towns of Canmore and Banff. One electrical contractor brought DIGS back three times, twice in Canmore and once in Banff, while the other jobs covered utility locates, a water line tie-in, and a new water line installation. Each visit gave contractors in the valley the same locate and excavation support DIGS provides closer to Calgary.

Site Conditions
Work was spread across both towns, from Silvertip Trail, Bow Valley Trail, Three Sisters Drive, and Mountain Avenue in Canmore to Muskrat Street and several anchor locations around Banff. Several jobs involved gas, water, sanitary, power, and fibre lines in close proximity, so locates came before any digging. Being well outside DIGS’s usual Calgary-area service radius, each visit meant getting a crew and unit out to the valley and completing the scope of work efficiently on site.
Execution
In Canmore, DIGS handled manhole water removal and standby, utility locates for water, sanitary, gas, and power on Bow Valley Trail, a pedestal hole and slot trench to a pole on Three Sisters Drive, and a pair of tickets on Mountain Avenue covering gas, water, and fibre locates and a water tie-in with trenching. In Banff, DIGS located a water main, dug pits for a new water line, and exposed the old line so it could be capped off, and about a week later dug seven anchor holes across five locations for the electrical contractor that had already used DIGS twice in Canmore.
Outcome
DIGS Hydrovac completed all six visits across Canmore and Banff, supporting four contractors and earning repeat work from one electrical contractor in both towns, demonstrating DIGS’s ability to deliver dependable locate and excavation support across the Bow Valley.
